Recognising phishing emails

Phishing emails try to trick you into clicking a link, opening an attachment or handing over credentials. Watch for urgency, unexpected requests, mismatched sender addresses and login pages that are not quite right. When in doubt, do not click - verify through a known channel.

The signals

Urgency or pressure, unexpected attachments, a sender address that does not match, and odd links.

The test

Hover the link and check the real domain; log in via the site you know, not via the email.

If unsure

Report it and verify with the sender directly.

FAQ

What if I already clicked?
Change the password, enable MFA, and report it.

Are attachments risky?
Unexpected ones especially - verify first.

Can training help?
Yes - regular, short awareness beats one big session.
